I’m Jodi Ramos, and I’ve been a professional photographer for over 20 years. I’m based in Bedford, NH, and I own and operate Millyard Studios, a creative photography space in the historic old mills of Manchester, NH. The name Millyard Studios pays homage to the rich history of the area and reflects my own journey, which started small and has grown into something I’m incredibly proud of today.
My passion for photography began at a young age when I would dress and photograph my dolls with a pink Hanimex 110 film camera. That childhood interest led me to my first job working at a one-hour photo lab, where I started printing and developing film. From there, my career grew as I worked in photography studios, for a sports photography company, and even assisted commercial photographers who were capturing large-scale projects like pieces of rocket ships and machinery. In college, I found myself drawn to creating sets and photographing people in them, which deepened my love for both the technical and creative sides of the craft.
In 2010, I started Millyard Studios, and it’s been growing ever since. I’ve built much of my own studio space, including concrete and brick walls, and experimenting with new painting techniques, which gives my backgrounds a soft, painterly quality reminiscent of the old master painters. I love working in the studio, but I also enjoy the challenge and energy of photographing people on location—whether I’m shooting a wedding or creating a styled portrait session tailored to my client’s vision.
My photography style is a blend of editorial sensibilities and creative storytelling. I love simple, minimalistic compositions that bring the focus to the person, their emotions, and the light. For me, photography isn’t just about clicking a button—it’s about drawing with light, which is what the word “photography” literally means in Greek. My love for light, color, and composition is what truly drives my work, and I take pride in finding new ways to use them in each project.
I’m drawn to rich, muted tones — whether deep or pastel — and I love creating images with a soft, elevated, and romantic feel. Textures and natural elements like stone, wood, moss, and grass often inspire me, and I incorporate these into my studio work or outdoor shoots. When it comes to outdoor photography, I find the most inspiration during New England’s early spring or November, when the landscape’s soft colors mirror my aesthetic. Whether it’s the beach or an open field at sunset, I always seek ways to connect my subjects with the natural world around them.
One of my favorite parts of working with clients is styling their sessions. I enjoy collaborating with people and making sure they feel comfortable and excited about the shoot. I like to ask questions about what they love and don’t love, and while I often take the lead creatively, I always value their input. Planning and preparing for a session is something I take seriously — it’s important to me I have a creative strategy in place to get as many great photos as possible. But once we’re in the moment, I also embrace the freedom to make instinctual choices and let the creativity flow.
I work with clients who appreciate luxury, subtle elegance, and creativity. If you’re someone who loves art and wants a photographer who can guide you through the process in an efficient and thoughtful way, I’d love to work with you. After years of experience, I know what works and what doesn’t, and I’m more than happy to do the heavy lifting if it makes the process easier for you.
