Outside my window is a gray blanket of clouds heavy with rain.  Perfect timing for our next installment of “Our Favorite Things: Mood”.  If you missed our introductory post on Mini Moments  you can check it out here!  We really enjoy taking a look back at some of our favorite imagery and this installment focuses on all things moody.

On a wedding day we find that sometimes the mood of the moment already exists and other times it’s up to us as photographers to create it with lighting and technical skill.  We’re always inspired by our environment and truly enjoy elaborating on what is handed to us through lighting and composition.  Let’s dive into some moody moments shall we?

Bride Mood

Often times when we think of a beautiful bride we conjure light and airy visions in white.  We DO love the light and airy but today we want to pay tribute to some elegant, moody bridal moments.  With so many rustic venues with warm, dark wood tones it’s not unusual for the bridal suite to reflect that style as well.  These days we’re really embracing the natural mood some directional window light can create!  Sometimes you want to tear open those shades and let there be light! It’s also okay to just let that light and shadow wrap around you like an elegant gown.

Moody Details

Just as with bridal moments, we enjoy embracing a moody space and letting those details speak for themselves.  Deep shadows, contrasting highlights, scattered twinkle lights and even a warm fireplace glow can help set the mood of your wedding day.  We want to bring your vision to life!

Set The Scene

When the mood is created for us we want to capture it as it’s meant to be!  In the story of your wedding day, these scene setting images can remind you how the day and environment felt.  A stormy sky, a summer sunset or even a damp, autumn day are beautiful in their own right!  Let those moments speak for themselves because they’re all part of your wedding story!

The Main Event

With so many Mini Moments that come together to build your big day, the ceremony and the reception can offer some serious mood!  You may not realize it but your event space often sets the tone for the whole day. Think of all those decor and floral choices you’ve made based on how they coordinate with your space. It’s magical when they all come together in one cohesive aesthetic. During the main event we’re likely using lighting to enhance the mood and highlight the important details.  You put a lot of effort into your dig day, let us make it shine for you!

True Religion

With so many options for your ceremony, lets not forget a classic- your place of worship. Be it a church, chapel or temple, whatever your denomination, these spaces can bring the drama in grand scale!  Often times these sacred spaces have  sentimental value so let us take some time to create some spiritual mood.

There are so many moody opportunities on a wedding day that we’ve not done yet!  We haven’t even begun to talk about our favorite of all moody photos: dramatic creative  portraits!   We can’t wait to share some of our favorite creative evening portraits with you!
